Summer Schedule & Meet Timeline

The swim team is in the Central Pennsylvania Swim League (CPSL).  PV and competes against Bellefonte Y, Juniata Valley, Park Forest, Science Park Pool, and Welch.  Meet locations will be at home or State College.   The season runs June & July (sometimes into the first couple days of August, please check out the calendar).

Practices:

For 2026, we are offering practices Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.

Practice groups are split between swimmers ages 11 and older (called Bigs) and swimmers ages 10 and under (called Littles).  We also run a special group of our youngest swimmers, called Chicks.  Please email Coach Stephanie at coachpvpenguins@gmail.com to help determine if your swimmer is ready.

Side note - Colors - The Penguins utilize colors to keep practice on pace.  For example, Littles have red and green.  Warmup for green might be 100 yards of freestyle and 100 yards of kicking, while red will do 50 of each.  We've been working hard these last few years to ensure that all swimmers get an adequate workout to learn and develop.  Kids can also change from chicks to littles or red to green as the season progresses.

Meets:

Swim meets begin at 6pm, typically on Thursday evenings.  Swimmers will need to arrive early for warm ups.  The home team always warms up first, so we expect swimmers to be at the pool at 4:45pm for home meets and 5:15pm for away meets.  Meets can last 3 - 4 hours, depending on the number of swimmers.  2026 home meets will be in Lewistown.

Timeline for Thursday Swim Meets:

Sunday evening - An email is sent attaching a Google form for you to indicate whether or not your swimmer will be attending, as well as what events they’d like to swim.  Our hope is as the season advances, your swimmer will gain confidence and want to try different events!  Coaches will encourage swimmers and begin to expand their meet event repertoire as the season goes on.  Our league includes some intense teams and though our coaches strive to push our swimmers to improve themselves continually, the Penguins pride themselves on being an asset to the community, a place where they're enjoying the competition but having fun together!

Tuesday evening - Signups are due at 8pm.

Wednesday morning - Entries are in your inbox by morning and parents should review and make sure they are correct.  Any changes need to be sent by noon.

Thursday afternoon - Heat sheets will be sent out for home meets and away meets if they’re given to us.

If a swimmer has to be removed from the meet at any time, please let Coach know!

Bonus info:

We have other events throughout the summer, mostly on weekdays.  Such as - parent swim meet crash course, picture night, Swim-a-Thon, and the end of season pool party (the last Friday of the season).  We also partake in an optional Saturday event held at Park Forest Pool - a "swim meet" but with all kinds of fun races!  There are even a couple of events that include family members!
